Health Insurance - Fee-For-Service Health Plans

By Jordan FeRoss

You never know what is going to happen in this life and that is why it pays to be prepared. It is important to have health insurance in Texas in case you become ill or get into an accident. Without insurance, a serious accident or illness could destroy your financial future, leaving you buried in debt for the rest of your life. It would be horrible to have to deal with the financial problems in addition to the health problems you would be facing. And, even worse than that is the fact that without insurance you could face being denied life-saving medical treatments.

That is exactly why having health insurance in Texas is so important, not just for yourself, but for your entire family as well. You would not want to leave your family with a huge financial burden should something horrible happen to you.

There are basically two types of health insurance in Texas. One is known as fee-for-service and the other is known as managed care. For the purpose of this commentary, we will be discussing the fee-for-service type of health insurance plans. Health insurance in Texas may be obtained through group coverage such as the type sponsored by employers or organizations that choose to provide health insurance for their employees or group members. Or, you may buy an individual health insurance plan directly from an independent agent or insurance company.

Fee-for-Service Health Coverage

The fee-for-service or indemnity plan is most often provided by an independent insurance company and gives the greatest flexibility because participants can see any doctor they choose. This is an especially important benefit when a specialist is required as there are no referrals necessary before an appointment can be made. For many people, this benefit makes the plan worth the additional cost.

With this health insurance in Texas, you are covered for the majority of the costs in regard to medical treatment and related medical issues that the policy covers. You will be billed for the out-of pocket items that the insurance did not cover. Once you pay the out-of-pocket fees, submit your claim to the insurance company for reimbursement.

As with other insurance plans, there is a monthly premium to be paid by the participant in order for the insurance to remain effective. For added convenience for those who have an indemnity group plan through their employer, premiums can be automatically deducted from your paycheck before being sent to the insurance company for your health insurance in Texas.

With most of not all health insurance in Texas, you will be required to pay a deductible for certain medical requirements. After that, the insurance will start paying their portion. Every year that you have the plan, you are required to pay a deductible. You can get lower insurance premiums by making your deductible higher. With fee-for-service insurance plans, there is also the matter of co-insurance. Some plans may pay 70 percent or higher with you paying the remainder. In the state of Texas, after you have satisfied the deductible, they pay at least half if not more of the medical services that are covered under this plan. You will need to thoroughly look at this plan to see if this is something that you would be feasible for you and your family.

Group Texas Health Insurance Plans

By Jordan FeRoss

While the majority of group insurance coverage comes from employer-sponsored benefits programs, there are other organizations who offer group health insurance in Texas. Group insurance can also be offered by churches and professional organizations. And, when it comes to employer-sponsored insurance plans, small businesses and large businesses have different requirements regarding their group health plans and the coverage they offer.

It is not mandatory that employers and other groups have to offer health care insurance in Texas. They don't have to put money aside to pay for premiums. However, there are some health care insurance companies that mandate some employers to pay at least half of the premiums for their employees.

Here are a few descriptions of some Texas health insurance group plans:

Small Business - For companies with 50 or fewer full-time employees required to provide health insurance in Texas. To qualify, employees must work at least 30 hours per week. Part-time and temporary workers are not included in the staff counts but an employer may allow these employees to participate in the group plan with a higher premium. Talented employees are more likely to choose a smaller company if they like the group plan.

Large Employer - In the state of Texas, large employers usually use the HMO health plan. Because of that, state law says the HMO must include a POS (point-of-service) elective. With larger employers, they can offer health care insurance in Texas to executives and other employees. No employee should be denied a health care due to a pre-existing condition.

Self-Funded - Many of these types of plans are managed by ERISA (Employee Retirement Income Security Act). These are favored by employers who choose to cover the entire cost of the health insurance coverage for their employees. These self-funded insurance plans are able to be used in a few different states and don't have to follow the insurance laws of that particular state. It is up to the U.S. Department of Labor to oversee this type of health insurance in Texas.

The majority of health plans for larger employers are self-funded. The Federal government doesn't have a lot of requirements for this particular plan. However, these plans may offer a wider range of coverage than what we used to. This particular health care insurance in Texas also provides health coverage all across the board.

Because it is part of a federal program, self-funded health insurance plans are subcontracted to a third-party company to help manage them. These third-party administrators (TPA's) are specially trained to oversee self-funded health insurance in Texas and must be licensed. When job searching, it is important to note that the size of the company for whom you work has a significant impact on the type of health insurance benefits you'll receive.

Health Insurance agents are not created equally

By Jeff Cline

If you are trying to find the right health insurance plan, you know how hard it can be. Finding a good agent to assist you can be even harder. But it doesnt have to be. There are many agents trying to win over your business, but we can help you pick the right one.

If you have started your search and have requested any quotes online you have probably starting getting calls from eager agents. Not all agents are created equally. Some agents are working for you, while others are only interested in making a quota.

Many people can just go online and find and purchase a policy without even talking to an agent. If you are comfortable with health insurance this is fine. If you have a complicated situation or questions about coverage and agent can help you find what meets your needs.

Some people are more comfortable meeting the agent face to face and working local. Others find it just as easy to work with a licensed agent right over the phone and online from the comfort of their own sofa. Either way is fine.

Sometimes finding an agent to work with by word of mouth is the best way. Friends and family usually tell you the truth about how an agent works. If nobody can recommend an agent to you, you should visit you state Department of Insurance. They have a list of licensed agents in your state.

If you choose a Captive agent, that agent is contracted with one carrier. Therefore they can only recommend and find you products from that one carrier. An independent health insurance agent can shop around for you. Typical there is no charge either way.

Be careful of the pushy agents that call you at home 20 times a day. Some are very good agents, but some our out for their best interest, not yours. And do not fall for the sales people (not agents) that call you trying to sell you non insurance products such as a discount card.

These discount companies are ripping off consumers every day. They require expensive sign up fees which you can never get back. A discount card is only worth the paper it is written on. If you are uninsured you will likely get the same discount from any doctor or hospital.

Time For Health Care Is Now.

By Ethan Kalvin

America continues its debate over universal health care, as the two side spar back and forth. On one side are citizens who are seeing health care costs skyrocketing out of sight as more Americans lose their health care coverage. And the other side continues to express the fear that any comprehensive government funded program would amount to nothing more than socialism.

In spite of the fact that there are medical facilities in every city, town and borough, tens of millions of our citizens are going without health care coverage because they just can't afford to pay for it anymore. In one of the richest countries in the world, that should not be happening. There is no doubt that those on both sides of the argument are truly concerned, but those who are going without health coverage while politicians argue, are ready for a resolution.

If it is a democratic society that will allow the poorest of its people to die, so that the richest in the country may stay that way, then truly what good is it? Do you really believe that when our forefathers thought of a democratic society, this is how they pictured it? People going hungry on the streets, people dying needlessly, do you think that is what was intended by a democracy?

If to take control and help our people out with medical benefits and allow them to lead healthier, happier lives, is socialistic, if it is, and that is not what I am saying, just what is being implied by others, than if the people are voting for it in a democratic manner, than isnt it still democracy?

The availability of quality health care is something all citizens need. We can not pick and choose who gets to survive while others go without. All Americans need access to the same quality of health coverage that the politicians in Washington receive at taxpayers' expense. Perhaps those politicians who are against a universal plan need to look in their own closets before judging how our money is spent.

Health Insurance...Considering Your Options

By Ethan Kalvin

To say that the subject of health insurance is a hot topic these days is putting it mildly. Some people are worrying about losing their coverage due to unemployment while others are worrying about rising insurance premiums. Still others are wondering if they have the best coverage at the right price.

No matter which situation you are in, you should know certain things about acquiring insurance for your family. Depending on your particular set of circumstances, you will have different options available to you, so make sure you do your homework before you buy. Here are some options that you may not know about.

Government subsidized or funded health insurance - Obviously this is as it sounds, the government helps the elderly, children, families with health crisiss, pregnant women, and parent of children to get health insurance. There are plans through Medicare and Medicaid, however if you are not eligible for these plans you may be eligible through plans in your individual state that provide help especially for children to get health insurance either for free or on a sliding scale, keeping the costs way down. These are available in all different states across the country and are primarily based on need, salary and family size.

Insurance through organizations or employers - Different groups like AARP offer health care coverage to their members. Another option is to form your own group for a group insurance policy. Some states allow you to form a group with as few as two members. In the past, the head of the household was responsible for having coverage for all family members, but in some instances it is more cost effective for certain family members to get their health coverage from their employer.

The biggest key to not spending too much on insurance is to think about what you need, and then be creative in finding a way to accomplish it. There are affordable insurance options out there; you just need to make sure that you look at all of the options available to you.

Did you think of this before getting your insurance quote

By David Stackhouse

Knowing where to get free insurance quotes is one thing. Knowing how to get them is something different. If you are looking to get the best price you can on insurance then our little guide will help you find the best insurance for you and your family.

There are many factors that affect insurance rates and plans. Lets look at car insurance for example. Car insurance rates depend upon your zip code, driving history, age, and even credit history. If you are buying insurance for more than one driver, your final rate will depend upon all the drivers information. The same applies to health insurance and life insurance. Both of those insurances depend upon location, health history, age, and and credit history.

Homeowners insurance depends upon the condition of your home, where it is located, and of course, that ever present credit report! If you want to check your credit rating before getting an insurance quote, we recommend Credit Report America as a great way to check an keep an eye on your credit rating.

The point is, an accurate insurance quote depends upon multiple factors. To make the process more complicated, different insurance companies weigh risk factors differently. A minor health condition may cause a twenty-five percent rate up with some health insurance companies, cause your policy to be declined with another, and not be any cause for concern with a third. It all depends upon that company's financial experience with the health conditions.

I am a huge fan of online insurance quote firms! Enter the information one time, and let prices and plans be delivered to you! However, the process of calling around, setting appointments with separate insurance agents, and waiting for return calls can take up a lot of time. You certainly dont want to make a part time job out of insurance shopping.

Stay Safe

The most reputable firms should have online Better Bureau participation and approval. Also, you want to make sure that the company you're getting a quote from is going to keep any of your information private. To insure this happens just confirm by looking at the footer of the website and see if you see a link to a privacy policy page. Doing this before you enter any information into any of the online forms insures your inbox of your mail account does not get blasted with a ton of spam.

Comparing Quotes Can Save you Money

In today's world, time has become an issue. So has money! When you can deal with one company online to get a free insurance quote from a few different brokers you will not only save time but you can also save hundreds of dollars per year.

Health Care - Required For Children

By Ethan Kalvin

There's a huge drive these days to get full health care for all and children are at the crux of the argument. When we consider that more adults than children are in need of health care, in addition to the fact that adults experience more health problems than children, we may wonder why?

The answer is simple. The youth of our country are our future, and keeping them healthy is important to all of us. It has been shown in studies that children who are covered by health insurance are generally healthier than those who aren't. This is because the covered kids get their necessary shots and receive regular treatments for common colds and other illnesses.

In addition to these things, children with health insurance tend to get sick less often and get the preventative care to keep them well. This means that they are feeling better, and probably have better attendance and performance at school, which allows them to get better grades and a better education, all of which we know will make them more productive members of society as they grow.

Most states are currently putting into effect programs that will provide health insurance coverage to all children who are not otherwise covered by their parents' health plans. This will allow these children to compete in school and society on an even footing with other children who have health insurance from other sources.

If you want to learn more about options for health care in your state, the government has a website which provides information, and it is called Insure Kids Now. There you can find out how to get your children insured. This step will help you get the coverage that your children need.
