There are Good Reasons to have health insurance

By Jeff Cline

Health insurance, we all need it, but we hate to pay for it. It is no secret that the rising cost of health insurance has got us down. We start second guessing thinking maybe we can live without it. Doing away with your health insurance could be the biggest mistake of your life, however.

Maintaining health insurance is important for a few reasons. Number 1, reports show that people with health insurance tend to get better health care. Number 2, thousands end up in bankruptcy court every year from medical bills incurred due to lack of health insurance.

No matter how healthy we are sometimes we can not predict illness. There are many factors that can cause illness, environment and genetics to name a few. The unexpected does happen to some of the most healthy individuals we know.

For these reasons it is important that we maintain at least catastrophic health insurance. Catastrophic health insurance is the bare bone minimum of health insurance plans. It is basically hospitalization coverage. Meant to protect you from the high cost of a hospital visit.

If you think you need a little more coverage but still think you can not afford full benefit health insurance on your budget, then you can opt for a saver plan. Saver plans typically have catastrophic coverage plus limited office visits, such as 2-3 a year. This kind of plan is perfect for a health nut that only see's the inside of a doctors office once in a blue moon.

If you are one of those that want all inclusive benefits then you too can still find affordable rates. It does require a little shopping however. And agent or broker can help you sort through the options and find a plan that matches your expectations.

Maybe you are thinking you are only going to have a short lapse of coverage a month or 2 perhaps and you think that it will be ok to wait it out for insurance. Not true, as we explained before the unexpected can happen to anybody and at anytime. Think about Murphy's Law.

The best option when you are faced with a short lapse of health insurance is to opt for a short term or temporary policy. They are flexible and affordable. Most only provide hospitalization, but if the unexpected occurs that could be priceless!
