Health Insurance -- Cheaper Rates For Adequate Coverage

By Chimezirim Odimba

You don't need to do difficult things in most cases in order to reduce your rates. It's generally little things that help you get massive discounts. Let's look at some of them here...

You'll pay less on health care if you take advantage of no-appointment ambulatory care centers or emergi-centers. This is especially so if you're always healthy and find it a little difficult to pay for regular health insurance. These centers are cheaper than an emergency room in a hospital.

Opt for a higher deductible and you'll get a cheaper rate. For those who don't understand what a deductible is, it is an amount you will pay before an insurance provider fulfills its part. Even though you're advised to opt for a very high deductible, take care that it's an amount that you can easily pay.

There are state plans for little children that will reduce your expenses if you get them for your kids. Howbeit, not everyone can benefit from such state plans.

But check if you are eligible as this will cost you nothing or close to nothing in most cases. If you have a kid with a special health condition, you will spend less if you insure such a kid through a state plan.

Premiums paid by self employed persons might be tax-deductible. You may as well be entitled to a tax break if your employer offers a flexible spending account. You can get details on this from your tax professional. This will help you determine what will entitle you to a tax break and what won't.

Ask your agent personally about all the discounts possible with your present insurance provider. Since agents too are not above mistakes they might forget to tell you about some discounts you should take advantage of. You'll discover simply by telling your agent that you want to know if you have been told about every discount there is. You might be astonished at discounts you have not taken advantage of.
