Student Health Insurance

By Naomi Campbell

As a small business owner there is a lot that you need to worry about. You need to keep sales up, customer service and your finances. Also, you have to be concerned about the well being of your employees.

There are many small businesses in America that do not carry health insurance for their workers. A lot of times employees use small business as a stepping stone and move on to bigger companies. So why would you carry insurance?

The school I attended charged roughly $161 for a semester. It was not a good as coverage that I had under my parents. I had free doctor visits and $100 co-pay for the E.R.

Most state schools have a walk-in health facility that is free. If you are student, you can come in and get physicals, check-ups and see a physician without twenty dollars co-pay. It is all paid for by your student fees.

If your school does not offer health insurance and you cannot stay on your parents plan then you should consider other options. It is important that you maintain health insurance while at college. You already have enough to worry about with finances.

Another way to save cost is to include your employees in payment. The first thing you should consider is who your employees are. You should figure out how long the employees are going to be there before you offer them insurance.

Set a date that health insurance will kick in for them. It could be a year, six months or several weeks. By doing this, you will only offer it to your most loyal employees.

You can set up a co-insurance program. You basically give them the most basic coverage and it will be their own choice to upgrade. By doing that, insurance is affordable for both you the owner and the employees.

When shopping, try to find a carrier who will try to be flexible with you as a small business. Typically, the larger businesses do not have to accommodate because they have enough customers. Smaller companies will be flexible with you.

It takes a while to get support from the non-profit organization. So you might want to look into what your state offers. Every state has some form of assistance for people who are in risk pools.

It is important that you make the sacrifices needed to be made. An injury will cost more in the long run than the price of insurance. Make sure you check with your carrier before you go to college and consider all your options.
