The Price To Pay For Not Having Health Insurance

By Jordan FeRoss

Health insurance in Texas can seem out of reach for some people. Even if they are employed, they may forgo insurance because they think it is not affordable on their budgets. For those people working just to make ends meet and keep the lights on in their home, the thought of any more monthly bills can be too overwhelming.

Far too many people lack adequate health insurance in Texas. Often, people do not realize the importance of being insured to maintain one's health and, therefore, insurance is not something they put at the top of their list. While it is true that many individuals choose not to be insured, many employers do not offer comprehensive health insurance plans to their employees because they feel financially strapped as well.

A diminished quality of life is one of the risks people take when they are uninsured and that is a considerable gamble. People without health insurance in Texas do not see their doctors as often as they should and may not know about health problems and illness in time for them to be treated as well as they would have if they had seen their doctors sooner. And, without insurance and prescription drug coverage, the uninsured often look to over-the-counter or illicit drugs or alcohol to help ease pain or discomfort without knowing what is wrong because they haven't been diagnosed.

Some people may not realize that free health care is paid for by the taxpayers. They pay out massive amounts each year to take care of those that don't have health insurance in Texas. So it's up to everyone else that pays taxes to pay for the indigent care of others. Some taxpayers don't really care for that. They get incensed because they have to pay health care for other people that they don't know.

The worst part of the belief that a person can't afford health insurance in Texas is that nobody can afford to be without it. If a person has an injury or develops a serious illness the medical bills will pile up quickly and they will be buried under a massive debt. The few dollars per week that would've been deducted from their paychecks will seem like a small price to pay once they are faced with the huge medical bills for their treatment.

Another downside for those that don't have insurance is that their resources are limited. They will still get some kind of health care, but it won't be top quality like it would be if they had health insurance in Texas. Having health insurance is crucial to getting quality care in any medical facility, whether it's a doctor's office or a hospital.

They can't get preventive care or if they do, it's of low quality. Quality preventive care is the key to keeping yourself healthy. You will be able to prevent diseases from coming about. Some of the most deadliest diseases happen to those that don't have health insurance in Texas. Have affordable health insurance in this state is an ongoing issue. It just doesn't affect the medical industry, but if also affects those that can't afford to get their own health insurance.
