Health Insurance Is A Must In Life

By Ethan Kalvin

If you have a serious accident or illness, then you will appreciate the true value of health insurance. It is a necessity for all families. Often we don't realize its value until it is necessary for us to go see a doctor.

Health insurance can also be a money saver, a fact that many don't realize. Health insurance actually limits the amount your doctor can charge for certain things like x-rays, certain treatments, and lab work. Without health insurance, you would be at the mercy of the doctors, who can charge whatever they want. With health insurance, your savings can quickly add up.

The insurance companies set the amounts the doctors can charge by creating what is referred to as 'reasonable and customary' charges. They cap what providers can charge for specific services. Anything above the R&C charges must be absorbed by the doctor's office. So, in effect, your health insurance actually saves you money.

There are also things that insurance companies will reimburse you for. Things that improve your health such as exercise programs and gym memberships may sometimes be paid partially by your health insurance company. Some plans will actually reimburse you for buying certain foods such as vegetables and fresh fruits. These aren't often advertised, and you probably will need to read the fine print to learn about them.

These days there are plenty of things we must cut out of our budgets, but health insurance should be among the last to go. Your family needs to stay covered, even if you only carry catastrophic coverage. Think of health insurance as a money savings plan instead of an expense, and you are sure to feel better about the monthly expense.
