International Health Insurance With Global Coverage

By Ray Sondeo

Whenever you?re traveling, you?ll feel more secure if you have international insurance. You never know what could happen. You might lose your luggage or encounter health risks and need immediate medical attention or even evacuation. Having an international insurance policy with worldwide coverage is better than just having a travel plan.

International insurance policy not only covers you in your home country but across many countries of the world. Unlike travel insurance policy, international travel medical insurance covers maternity, preventive care and also pre-existing conditions after a pre determined waiting period.

But before you make the most out of the benefits provided by international insurance health providers, you have to meet the eligibility requirements that they have set. You may be of any age and of any nationality and of any status, but you must still comply with certain requirements.

One of the criteria of many international insurance providers is the duration of stay in the US by the citizens of United States. Some of the international insurance policies require the US citizens to reside abroad or leave the US on a particular date and stay outside the country for approximately six months. However, this restriction does not hold good for non-US citizens.

International health insurance with worldwide coverage can be availed by people as young as 14 days and as old as 74 years. But if the individuals turn more than 74 years, they would be covered under the same policy if they have been covered by the international insurance provider for many years in the past before they turn 74.

The medical insurance for international travel policy that you opt for can also be available for your family. If you are married and have children, your family can be covered under the same international health insurance plan. Some plans offer free coverage for children if both parents are covered under the same plan.

In the case of newborn babies, if the mother is covered by insurance and also has opted for pregnancy coverage, the babies are also covered for any illness right from their birth. But you need to include the newborn under the insurance plan of the parents within 31 days of birth.

Both individuals and families can enroll for the International Health Insurance. In case of family coverage, incentives are offered by the insurance providers. But to avail some benefits like preventive care and also maternity coverage, you may require waiting for 12 months.
