Online Shopping is Easier Than Ever for Medicare Supplement Insurance!

By Derrick Johnson

Modern technology may be changing the senior insurance market forever. More and more retirees are going online to research products before they make a purchase. The main goal is to be able to shop and make a decision in a pressure free environment.

Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap is a reasonably simple product. The Federal Government standardized these products in the early 1990s. Each Medicare Supplemental plan is designated by a specific letter. There are 12 plan options and they are labeled A-L. Simply put, all similarly lettered Medigap plans do exactly the same thing.

For many years it was believed that seniors were not educated enough to make financial decisions without the advise of an expert. Even though this was never true, many seniors because of a lack of confidence went along with this stereotype. No longer is this the case.

As the Internet began to come of age, baby boomers began aging into Medicare and a more educated and confident senior citizen was born. Today, seniors are offended by the fact that some people consider them "elderly" and uneducated. Todays seniors have chosen to research before making a purchase and the Internet is the tool of choice for them to do this.

Medicare Supplemental insurance is a good product for a senior to educate themselves online. Google, Yahoo or anywhere else on the Internet provides many opportunities for them to research this easily understandable product. The pressure free environment of the Internet offers an anonymous method of researching products.

The days of the old neighborhood insurance agent sitting at the table may be over, but the need for good advise still exists. The Medicare and Medicare Supplement market changes frequently in this modern era. Understanding the needs of the modern senior a good advisor will listen to their needs and desires while providing useful and up to date information.

Baby boomers are now using email to communicate, they are "tweeting" with their friends and family and developing confidence in the Internet. What better product than Medigap insurance to practice their new online shopping skills?
